Pavement ants

This small ant is brown and, as its name suggests, it builds its nest under paving stones. Its nest is easy to recognize thanks to the small mounds of sand found in cracks along walkways or in the lawn. Pavement ants are especially active in late spring and early summer.

How to identify pavement ants in your home

Pavement ants often nest within the empty spaces inside your walls. You will typically spot them on kitchen countertops, inside lower cabinets, behind the refrigerator, and of course in your bread box. They tend to follow the same path repeatedly as they move toward their main objective: your food.

Extermination

You can try using store-bought products (bait traps) to eliminate them when the infestation is minor. However, if after 10–15 days the problem persists, you should contact a professional exterminator. They should provide a written guarantee and will need to locate and treat the nest directly to fully resolve the issue.

Prevention

Do not leave food out on countertops. Clean behind your stove and refrigerator. Regularly wash the shelves inside your cabinets
